Welcome to the

We are an interdisciplinary team dedicated to uncovering new insights into musculoskeletal tissue oxygenation and the pivotal role of erythrocyte function & development in musculoskeletal health, injury, and disease. Leveraging this knowledge, we aim to regenerate bone, to restore cartilage and to advance biomaterials

We invite you to explore our opportunities and consider joining our team!

We thrive in highly collaborative, creative, and critical environments, fostering innovation and building long-term academic partnerships. We are part of the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories (ORL) within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School and part of the Engineering Cell Programmable Biomaterials for Regenerative Medicine Scientific Research Initiative (BSI).

We are committed to foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels. As PI, I strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment that supports the personal and professional development of all current and future team members. Our team is built on principles of equal opportunities, open communication, and mutual respect, ensuring everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives.

We are dedicated to continuous allyship for marginalized and underrepresented communities. This commitment is reflected in the following actions:

Educating Ourselves: Actively learning about racial justice and systemic discrimination to better understand the challenges faced by marginalized communities.

Listening and Amplifying Voices: Uplifting the voices of underrepresented individuals, even when their perspectives challenge our assumptions or prompt discomfort.

Advocating for Change: Speaking out against microaggressions and institutional policies that disadvantage marginalized groups, both within our lab and in the broader campus community. This includes advocating for equitable treatment of staff, students, faculty, and low-wage workers.

Supporting Justice and Well-Being: Providing space, time, and support for team members to engage in community healing, justice efforts, or self-care. We remain committed to offering financial, career, and other resources to team members during these endeavors.

Giving Back: Donating to and supporting organizations that promote the success and well-being of marginalized communities in STEM and beyond whenever possible.
